Ordinary SICA Summit

The Presidents of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Panama and the Vice Presidents of Costa Rica and Nicaragua have confirmed their participation in the Ordinary SICA Summit to be convened in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye on Friday, 29 June 2007. The Summit will provide a forum for the Presidents to discuss issues of importance to the region including regional security, education, integration, energy and the Association Agreement between Central America and the European Union.

The Prime Minister of Belize, Rt. Hon. Said Musa will chair the Summit and will give a report on the accomplishments of SICA during Belize’s six months tenure as the President Pro tempore of the Central American Integration System. Belize’s presidency was executed under the theme “Linking Central America and the Caribbean Community.” Our accomplishments include the signing of the historic Plan of Action between CARICOM and SICA, the agreement between the SICA and CARICOM to discuss a free trade agreement between the two regions, the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the two regions and greater cooperation between the organs of CARICOM and SICA in areas such as education, health, the environment and agriculture.

The Summit will culminate in the handing over of the Presidency Pro tempore by Belize to Guatemala.

The IX Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Dialogue and Harmonization of the Tuxtla Mechanism will be convened in the afternoon of the 29 June 2007 in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. This IX Tuxtla Summit will bring together the Heads of Central America and Mexico to discuss issues such as migration, regional security, free trade, energy and the progress of Mesoamerica projects. The Tuxtla Mechanism provides for political cooperation and coordination at the highest levels on matters of mutual interest of the Central American countries and Mexico.
